Father's Viral Video Gets Response From Facebook

Posted: Updated:

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Facebook has been creating very cute "look back" videos for all its users and their timeline. And now, Facebook is using that feature to help a father remember his son.

Facebook's "look back" feature goes back and collects all your posts and pictures since you joined Facebook and creates a one minute long video of the best moments. The feature has gotten pretty popular and a lot of people have been doing it.

John Berlin lost his 21-year-old son, Jesse, back in January of 2012. Like many people with a Facebook account who are no longer on this earth, Jesse's account sat idle on cyberspace. His last Facebook post from before his death was a reminder to everyone of the life cut short.

No one knew Jesse's Facebook password, but Berlin wanted to log into Jesse's account one last time to see the "look back." He tried everything to no avail. As a last resort, Berlin posted a tearful plea on YouTube to Mark Zuckerberg, asking for help accessing his son's account so he could watch the video.

"All we want to do is see his movie, that's it!" said Berlin. "I don't even need to get on his account."

The father's video was posted on Wednesday. More than 700,000 people watched it on the first day and shared the video like the Berlin asked. The video now has almost two million hits.

Berlin has received a response from Facebook. Facebook tells him they are going to make a video for him and his family. In fact, Facebook also told him that the company is looking into a policy to memorialize Facebook pages of people who have lost loved ones.

Berlin posted the good news on his Facebook page.

It immediately got more than 1,900 shares.

Berlin then wrote a word of thanks under his YouTube video:

My son was 21 and died of natural causes, his autopsy came back undetermined. He is proof that there are no guarantees in life. Hug your children kiss them. Tell them you love them every single day. Again I thank every single one of you, even the dislikes. God Bless.
