Study: Shivering Burns Off Lots Of Calories

If the cold weather is getting you down, listen to this: a new study finds that just ten minutes of shivering can burn as many calories as an hour of exercise.

That's not all. According to researchers, being in the cold and shivering produces a rise in the hormones that transform your regular fat cells (white fat tissue) into brown fat cells over time. Brown fat (Brown Adipose Tissue) is a different kind of fat cell that lines your body and burns calories to produce heat to warm your body when you get cold or when you eat too much.

The existence of heat producing fat cells in the body is a relatively new find, and this new finding of hormones that can turn white fat into brown fat after repeated exposure to cold is something that will continue to be studied at research institutions around the country.

With these findings in mind, Good Day must have run a marathon and burned off lots of calories in New York City during the week before the Super Bowl!
