ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) -- The extreme weather has taken its toll on a three-story home used as a cancer support community.

Officials at Gilda's Club, located on Rochester Road just north of 13 Mile, say the recent cold temps caused the home's fire suppression system to burst on the second floor Wednesday evening causing an estimated $200,000 in damage.

Executive Director Laura Varon Brown says the water flooded the building for over 40 minutes before Royal Oak fire crews were able to shut it off.

Gilda's Club offers a free support community for anyone affected by cancer. The Royal Oak location welcomes more than 900 regular visitors.

Brown says the club should be reopen on Monday with limited services. While crews rebuild, neighboring Woodlawn Church plans to opens its doors to Gilda's community.
