The defending champ at the golf tournament, Phil Mickelson is in town and he will play in this year's Phoenix Open.
Mickelson pulled out of the PGA Tournament in San Diego because of an injured back. He flew into town Tuesday and he did a light workout at a secret location and says he is a go.
A host of celebrity athletes took part in the Annexus Pro-Am Wednesday. Former greats Dr. Jay and Randy Johnson played as well as Bruce Arians and Patrick Peterson. It was a Diamondbacks infielder Aaron Hill that had the biggest head or heads as several Arizona pitchers surprised him shortly into his round.
"I was going to make my own but the Diamondbacks had some made up last night and we picked them up this morning. We showed up as he was going to hit on the third tee. " said josh Collmenter.
"Thats what the Phoenix open is about. If you can't have thick skin you're not going to make it. Everyone had a blast" said Aaron Hill.
After the Pro-Am, country western star Jake Owen is one of many who participated in a shot for glory closest to the pin contest.
"I felt pretty good until I swung it then it was bad. I hit it like a foot, almost shanked that one, that's what happens... this is golf" said Owen.
Jake Owen will be perperforming at the Birds Nest Thursday nigh. Tonight it's O.A.R. and tomorrow of course there is golf tomorrow, the first round.
