Bank Robber Dons Mask Like 'Inspector Clouseau'

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD TWP., Pa. -

Investigators are on the hunt for the person who wore a distinctive mask Thursday morning to commit a bank heist, and he may be behind two prior robbery attempts.

It was 9:11 a.m. when the subject entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 888 Baltimore Pike in Springfield Township and displayed a note declaring a robbery before being given cash and fleeing towards Thomson Avenue.

Police described him as light-skinned with a thin build and between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was wearing black sunglasses, a baggy gray hooded sweatshirt, baggy blue jeans, a black knit ski hat and black gloves.

He was also carrying a black bag over his shoulder and wearing that rubber, mustached mask to cover his face, police said.

Surveillance photos of the mask – which almost looks like the "Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau" character from "The Pink Panther" series – were released on Friday morning.

According to investigators, this appears to be the same person who attempted to rob post offices in Yeadon Borough and Darby Borough on Wednesday.

Anyone who may know the subject or has any information on these incidents is asked to contact Detective Robert Nutley at 610-544-5506 or Detective Dan McNeely at 610-544-5504.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
