Police Investigate Armed Robberies Committed During Storm

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. -

The heavy snow slowed down much of the area, but it didn't stop some criminals in Burlington County.

Police said an armed robbery and attempted armed robbery were committed in the heart of Tuesday's storm.

They're still investigating if the two cases are related.

In the meantime, they're hoping you'll recognize the suspects.

Surveillance video showed two men with black ski masks approach the counter at Country Farms convenience store on Route 73.

One pulled out a hand gun and demanded the cash from the clerk.

Investigators said they took more than $500 from the business.

Police said it happened around 2:15 Tuesday afternoon, when several inches of snow were already on the ground and more was still on the way.

"I think it's sad because I think those two gentleman could have went out here and made some money by shoveling snow. They had to come to a merchant and take his money that he's worked really hard for," customer Derek Wormley said.

Lt. Jeffrey Hoch said the slippery roads slightly delayed their response time to the scene.

By the time officers arrived, he said the robbers were already gone.

"That's what we're thinking, who the heck would want to do a robbery in the snow, but you know they got away," Hoch said.

Five hours later and just five miles away in Cinnaminson, police said two men dressed in all black with full beards and armed with handguns tried to rob the Shell on Route 130.

The attendant told police that he was inside the locked office, when one of the suspects pulled out their gun and attempted to get inside.

When the suspects saw him call 911, the attendant said they ran away.

Police said these are the latest cases in a series of armed robberies plaguing their area, but Wormley said that won't stop him from visiting his favorite store daily.

"I would always stop here because he's been a good merchant towards me, I mean he takes good care of me and I'm sad that he got robbed," he said.

If you have any information on either case, you're asked to call police: (856) 234-8300 and reference case 2014-1111.
