I-Team exposes taxpayers wasting tax dollars

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The FOX 5 I-Team has spent more than 30 years uncovering waste and fraud in government programs. But this time, they've found something different.

Taxpayers have lost or stolen more than $6 million worth of Library books and DVDs  from metro Atlanta libraries during the past five years.  And we found more than $5 million in uncollected overdue fines.

What was stolen?  Bibles and GED prep books topped most lists. And Dr. Seuss books.

As FOX 5 Senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell reported:

And not just one book
Not just two.
1163 Dr. Seuss books
Who knew?
All gone. Lost, stolen or pinched.
Just like Christmas
by the Grinchy old Grinch.

The FOX 5 I-team urges all library patrons to return any old books or DVDs you may have forgotten.
