This winter weather may be to blame for three deaths in Delaware County. Family tells us one man died while shoveling snow.
The Delaware County Medical Examiner has confirmed 3 deaths of elderly residents. One of them died at Taylor Hospital. Although autopsies are being done to officially determine a cause all the signs point to the cold and snow. That is the front porch Kenneth Lamm was shoveling when he collapsed this afternoon outside his nether providence township home.
His wife tells us the 87 year old man was a loving father who retired after a long career at the Philadelphia Gas Works.
There are two other Delaware county victims. A 67-year old man and a 92-year-old woman also died. Their deaths are believed to be weather related.
"I hate it. I honestly hate walking in this weather," Ashely Newton of Norwood said.
First a winter wallop of 14 inches of snow in Delaware County-then more than a week of bone chilling temperatures expected.
"It's going to be terrible. Being a contractor it's going to be uncomfortable,"
John Digiovannantonio of Newark, DE said.
It's too cold for us. Normally in India.. it's not like this. You need a bigger coat. Yes I need a bigger coat," Avi Sandhu of Holmes said,
Stay too long outside, It may get dangerous.
FOX 29's Doctor Mike Cirigliano says in 5 degree wind-chill frostbite can set in within 30 minutes
"You start to have trouble with muscle function and numbness. And if that starts you need to get inside,"Dr. Mike said. "You must cover your skin. INcl face your nose your ears all and hands and feet especially with layers"
For kids the weather is great. No school and a good sledding hill but for most others. The winter has worn out its welcome.
Doctors say even if you are having fun out in the snow. Limit your time outdoors to 20 minutes or less.
