Authorities have arrested an 18-year-old who allegedly threatened a school in the town.

Parents with kids in the Show Low Unified School District say they got an e-mail with a recorded message from the superintendent.

It said, "Good evening, this is Mr. Brackney, superintendent of Show Low schools. This afternoon Show Low schools received information that an individual had made an inappropriate threat that may involve a school in the White Mountains. No specific districts, schools, dates or times were shared in the threat. Our police department is taking this information seriously and so will Show Low schools. Currently this is not viewed as an active threat, however, you will notice heightened vigilance around our schools. If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to call your school tomorrow. Thank you."

The message was sent around 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

Three hours later,  Show Low police arrested 18-year-old Steven Richard Carpenter.

They say they got a tip around 1 p.m. about "Columbine type" threats Carpenter made on social media.

They eventually tracked him down at his home and took him into custody.

Officers haven't released the name of the school that was allegedly targeted.
