The next time you eat out in Austin, you could also be feeding someone less fortunate.
That's the goal of a new free app called TangoTab; to help fight hunger. Here's how it works: once downloaded you can see special deals from restaurants around town. You redeem the offer with your phone. Then when you dine there, a portion of the proceeds will go to TangoTab.
A meal is then donated to a person in need through a local charity.
The app goes live in Austin Tuesday, but the company says they've already had success in several other cities.
"The response has been overwhelming. We find that our service and our app provides our consumers with an easy way to do good. It's what our CEO calls a win-win-win model. It's a win for restaurants, because they get new loyal customers. It's a win for consumers, because you get amazing free deals. It's a win for the community, because again we donate a meal to a family in need every time our app is used," says Stephen Huerta, director of business development and market, TangoTab.
The app allows you to keep track of how many people you've helped feed.
