A retired army chaplain and founder of a ministry for military children is in the Bell County Jail. He is charged with indecency with a child by contact.
Bell County deputies say Jon Tidball planned to have 99 kids at his camp here on Thursday. He served kids here from all across the United States.
Tidball was arrested Monday.
Deputies say the indecency with a child charge stems from a complaint from a 24-year-old woman. She claims Tidball assaulted her from 8-12 years of age. The alleged abuse occurred while he was stationed in Germany, San Antonio and Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.
Bell County deputies are concerned for the children who attended any of Tidball's camps.
On the Patriot Kids Ministries website, it says the organization held after school programs, day camps, weekend camps--all for military children and even a free camp for gold star kids who lost their parents in battle.
Tidball served 31 years in the Army and retired in 2008 as a Lt. Col. He's worked in kids camps ever since.
"Any camp that has been run by Mr. Tidball, parents should at least sit their children down and talk to them and see if there was anything that was just not right at that time when they were visiting the camp," Lt. Michelle Cianci, with the Bell County Sheriff's Office
If you have any suspicions as a parent, call the sheriff's office at 254-933-6770.
The charges are out of Bexar County. Tidball will soon be transferred to that jail.
In January of 2013, the Army charged Tidball with sodomy, but he wasn't indicted until this past fall.
