Daughter Finds Wrong Body In Mother's Casket

WARWICK, RI -

A major mix-up during a somber time for a Rhode Island family makes the situation more sober. A Rhode Island woman was horrified after she discovered the wrong body in her mother's casket.

The discovery happened just hours before the wake last month in Englewood, New Jersey.

"I can't stop crying. I just can't stop it's just so horrific and heartbreaking," said daughter Lisa Kondvar.

The mother had died unexpectedly while vacationing in Saint Maarten during Thanksgiving. And the family believes that a hospital or a Saint Maarten funeral home who prepared her mother's body mixed the woman's body up with a Canadian woman's body.

What's worse, they believe that their mother's body was cremated during the mix-up and that the death certificate issued In Saint Maarten listed the woman as a man!

"I heard my aunt come running out of the room saying that's not my sister, that's not my sister." said Kondvar. "I looked at her face and I was like,' wow that's not mom. The tears stopped because I can't grieve for this woman. This is not my mother."

US Senator Jack Reed and state officials are working together to help the family get answers.

"They've been working nonstop almost on this. Senator Reed is heartbroken and he's just been pushing, pushing, pushing…trying to get answers," said Kondvar.

Also, a DNA match is being done to determine if her mother's body was indeed cremated. If so, she will take possession of the ashes. The family has also hired a detective and is looking for an international attorney.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
