A heartbreaking story this weekend -- two Vista Ridge High School sweethearts that had been dating for years lost their lives around 9:00 Friday night in a tragic car accident on Parmer Lane in Cedar Park.
Family and friends of 18-year-old Nathaniel Gomez and his 17-year-old girlfriend Taylar Lessar gathered on Parmer Saturday night...forming a circle and praying.
According to Cedar Park Police, it was at that spot Friday night that Taylar crossed the center median and went into oncoming traffic.
Her boyfriend Nathaniel was in the passenger seat.
Cedar Park P.D. says they were pronounced dead at the scene
Saturday afternoon before the vigil we spoke with some of Nathaniel and Taylar's closest friends -- including Britney Gehman. She's pretty new to Vista Ridge High School and Taylar was her first friend.
"Coming into a new school you don't know how they're going to treat you, how they're going to accept you and to have someone that wants to know your name and what you're about as soon as you walk in the door...that was really special," Gehman said.
"It doesn't hit you. I was like 'No, this didn't happen. There's no way.' I talked to her yesterday, we hung out for a little bit and I get a call saying she's been in a car accident she's not here anymore...and you don't ever want to get that phone call. And so it was really hard once it like set in that she's not gonna be here anymore," said Ashley Cooper, a friend of Taylar's.
"If I had to go I want to be with somebody that I cared about that much. They spent all that time together, they had memories, they had so much chemistry together," said Jeb Brawner. Jeb played football with Nathaniel.
The candlelight vigil lasted for nearly two hours.
Friends shared stories, even poems and they prayed for two very special people...Nathaniel's parents, Anthony and Michelle Gonzales.
They said they felt comforted that so many came to remember their son and his girlfriend.
"Extremely, extremely...and we're glad Nathaniel and the other person, Taylar, that was his girlfriend...they had been boyfriend and girlfriend for quite some time...so I'm glad that they were together," Michelle said.
"Just knowing that his siblings...he still has younger siblings that looked up to him and his choices and that he's not here to talk to them and guide them," Michelle said.
Taylar's vehicle hit a Volkswagen. The passenger of that car was treated and released. The driver is in serious condition at St. David's.
Cedar Park P.D. say both Nathaniel and Taylar were wearing their seat belts.
We talked to another close friend of Taylar's who was just with her before the accident.
She says Taylar was always a safe driver...making sure her passengers were buckled up.
