Compton sheriffs deputies patrolling near the area of Rosecrans and Cookacre on January 7, spotted  a blue van parked over an underground fuel storage tank at an ARCO gas station and became suspicious.

Deputies saw a hand protrude out from the center floorboard of the van, pull out a hose from the underground tank and close the metal cover lid. The van then drove out of the gas station.

Believing the occupants in the van had just committed a gasoline theft, the deputies pulled the van over after conducting a traffic stop.

They discovered five 55-gallon tanks inside the van along with a pump and a water hose. The tanks were filled with about 275 gallons of diesel fuel.

The three men in the van were arrested for grand theft of diesel fuel.

Deputies caution that transporting fuel in this manner and quantity is extremely dangerous and could have ignited and caused an explosion if near a lit cigarette or if involved in a traffic collision.

I met the folks from Gunnar Optiks at CES this year and they had something new to show me. The Intercepts. I have a big head, these are big frames, it was kismet but do they work as good as they look? We'll see.
