The Department of Public Safety is investigating what caused a driver to veer off the road and into oncoming traffic along FM 812.
DPS Sgt. Dane Baker says the two vehicle crash killed one woman and sent two other adults and three children to area hospitals.
The crash was reported around 5:20 p.m. According to the preliminary report, investigators believe the driver of a blue Infinity was northbound on FM 812 and veered off the road. She overcorrected and t-boned a silver Lexus.
Five people were pinned inside the infinity according to EMS. The front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say she is a female in her 30s. The driver of the Infinity was transported to UMCB in critical condition.
As for the three children in the backseat, Sgt. Baker says investigators do not believe the children were wearing seat belts. Star Flight transported all three children to Dell Children's Medical Center. Their ages and conditions are unknown.
The driver of the Lexus was taken to UMCB with minor injuries.
Troopers will look at skid marks and pull the data from both car computers. It's not clear what caused the Infinity to go off the road in the first place.
Travis County Deputies were also assisting DPS.
FM 812 remained closed for more than three hours Thursday.
