Austin police have now charged a man they say was intoxicated when hit and killed two men early Friday morning in South Austin.
Mario Ruiz-Leyva is charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of intoxication manslaughter, one count of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and one count of leaving the scene of a crash.
Ruiz-Leyva was driving a Chevy Malibu that hit a van near the I-35 and Riverside intersection then left the scene. A few minutes later police say he hit a Toyota Camry at I-35 and Ben White at a high rate of speed.
Both victims in Camry died at the scene. Both Ruiz-Leyva and his passenger are still at UMC Brackenridge with serious injuries.
