JetBlue resumes flights at NYC area airports

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - JetBlue began resuming operations Tuesday after canceling all flights at John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport and Boston Logan Airport on Monday to recover from bad weather on Friday and over the weekend.

"We continue to work with customers to rebook or refund any canceled flights, and are adding extra sections where we can," the airline said on its BlueTales blog. "As we add extra sections, we will reach out to customers directly via provided contact information to assist in reaccomodating them on those new flights."

The service suspension plan was to to allow for 17 hours of continuous service to catch-up including time for crews to rest and service the airplanes.

On Friday, flights were canceled during the first winter storm of 2014 and and ice conditions further disrupted service on Sunday.

Thousands of flights were canceled across the country on Monday as a polar vortex caused a radical drop in temperatures. The extreme weather was forecasted for New York City late Monday into Tuesday.

JetBlue advises customers to check the status of their flight online prior to leaving for the airport.

If an iced coffee from Dunkin' Donuts is part of your afternoon routine, expect a nudge to buy a cookie or doughnut you didn't plan on. Dunkin' Brands CEO Nigel Travis said in a phone interview Thursday that the company is pushing to get its cashiers to "upsell" to afternoon customers. It's part of an effort to increase sales after stores have emptied out after the morning rush.
