Two people have been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and aggravated assault, after a shoplifting incident that resulted in gunfire at Arrowhead Mall.
Glendale Police say their detectives have identified the shoplifting suspects as Michael Hough, 35, and his wife, Shaasahna Hough, 33.
Officers say the couple was shoplifting a drill from the Sears store at Arrowhead Mall on Friday afternoon. When a loss prevention officer tried to stop them, police say Shaasahna Hough pulled a gun out and pointed it at the loss prevention officer.
A Glendale man was sitting in a vehicle outside the mall, waiting for his wife in Sears, and saw the gun pointed at the loss prevention officer. He got out of his vehicle and walked toward the suspects; at the same time, he reportedly saw his wife walking out of the store.
Police say he opened fire a number of times in the direction of the armed suspect to protect both his wife and the loss prevention officer. The suspects took off on a black motorcycle.
Detectives with Glendale Police examined the surveillance video footage, and on Saturday night, they took two suspects into custody.
Both Michael and Shaasahna Hough were arrested near 26th Avenue and Deer Valley Road in Phoenix. The couple are now facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
