The Blood Center of Central Texas is asking for you to roll up your sleeve and give blood in the new year, especially if you have Type O blood.
The Blood Center says their supply of O blood is at a critically low level. The need for O negative blood is especially high because it is a universal type and can be given to anyone in an emergency.
Spokesperson Andrea Lloyd says during the holiday they see fewer people coming in to donate. But at the same time there are often more car accidents, more surgeries and more people needing blood.
"Unfortunately the need for blood doesn't take a holiday or a vacation, and we need 200 donations every single day, no matter what day," Lloyd said.
If you want to donate, you must be at least 17-years-old, weigh at least 115 pounds and be in generally good health. All donors at the Blood Center of Central Texas's three locations will get a free tumbler this month.
To schedule an appointment, please call The Blood Center of Central Texas at 512-206-1266. Visit the Center's website at www.inyourhands.org to learn more about blood donation or to find a mobile blood drive near you.
