The always upbeat Governor had probably the most challenging year of his three years in office so far. Each year at this time on Michigan Public TV, the Governor grants an interview to reflect on what he got right and what he got wrong.

The CPA glows over getting the state budget right three months ahead of the deadline.

"It was another strong budget year. We got a lot done; it's rock solid in terms of being balanced and we're paying down debt," Gov. Rick Snyder says.

On the economic front, it's not happy days are here again, but - "We saw strong private sector job growth again in our state. Income's coming up; property value's coming up," says Gov. Snyder.

But the state has the third worst unemployment rate in the nation.

The political residue from the battle over Right to Work continues. As for his relationship with labor? "That could use some more work. After Right to Work last year it still is a challenging environment," he says.

That's governor speak for - they aren't getting along.

Unlike other Republican governors, Gov. Snyder got on board with the President's affordable health care law by enacting the Michigan version of the Medicaid expansion program. He's proud of ensuring 470,000 needy families. "That was a big opportunity. It was helping Michigan with bipartisan support," he says.

But there was zero bipartisan support on his $1.2 billion road repair package.

"That would be one of the challenges that I was not successful with this last year," he admits.

Maybe next year - he hopes.
