'uFaker' app rewards you for busting knockoff products

A new smart phone app, 'uFaker', rewards you for alerting business owners of knockoff products.

"Brand owners would come to us and say our products are being knocked off," says President of uFaker, Jason Drangel.

So how does it work? When you spot a brand knockoff, snap a picture and send it. "That report then gets sent directly to the brand owner who starts their own investigation of the counterfeiting," explains Drangel.

FOX's Steve Noviello says he tried it out and his reward was inboxed almost instantly - a page unlocking coupons and other online promotional deals.

"It's been around about two months and we've had over 700 downloads of the app, and we've had over 60 reports of counterfeits from consumers," says Drangel. He adds the idea is in its infancy and better, more exclusive rewards are in the works.

"There's going to be a lot of opportunity for discounts on brand owner purchases at their own websites, things that you're typically not going to be able to get," says Drangel.

You can report suspected fakes being sold in stores or online. Your submission does not have to be verified before you get access to the rewards page.
