Burleson County police have arrested Henry Goedrich Magee and charged him with Capital Murder of a Peace Officer in the shooting death of Deputy Sgt. Adam Sowders.

Magee, 28, was booked into the Burleson County Jail on Thursday, then transferred to Brenham where he will be held on a one million dollar bond.

Sgt. Sowders was fatally shot Thursday morning just before 6:00 a.m. while serving an arrest warrant at a home along County Road 278. He was one of eight officers on the scene at the time.

"Adam was well respected and extremely well liked and he is going to leave a big hole in what we do,"said Sheriff Dale Stroud.

Sowders, 31, was recently promoted to Sergeant over investigations and joined the Burleson County Sheriff's Office in 2006.

He previously served with the Somerville Police Department. He has been with the Somerville Fire Department since he was 18. He did not have a wife or children but has many family members in the community.
