Georgia Woman Wins Half Of Mega Millions Jackpot

Posted: Updated:

Talk about an early Christmas present, a woman in Atlanta, Georgia is now $120 million richer.

That's what 56-year-old Ira Kerry will get after taxes, after winning the second largest lottery jackpot ever.

Lottery officials say the woman bought just one ticket, and used family birthdays and the lucky number seven to choose her numbers.

It worked she won half a $636 million dollar mega million prize.

Curry bought the winning ticket at a Gateway Newsstand at 3500 Lenox Rd. NE in Atlanta, according to a spokesperson. The store is in the Alliance Center, a 22-story building.

The Georgia woman found out that she was the lucky winner while driving to work on Wednesday morning, according to Georgia Lottery CEO Debbie Alford.

Lottery Officials in California are still waiting for that state's winner to come forward.

Someone in San Jose also bought a ticket that matched all the numbers in last night's mega millions drawing.

The estimated Mega Millions jackpot stood at $636 million going into Tuesday night's drawing, but lottery officials say ticket sales were stronger than expected in the hours before the drawing. As a result, the final jackpot may be as high as $648 million. Either way, it will be the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

The owner of the store that sold that ticket will receive a million dollar bonus.
