Cashier Takes Gun From Armed Robber At Family Dollar

Posted: Updated:

"He said give me everything you got before I blow your head off. "

Those are the heart stopping words a cashier says an armed robber uttered as he says the man pointed a gun at him. We're not releasing the cashier's identity to protect him.

Surveillance video shows how it all went down at the Family Dollar on the 6300 block of North Broad Street Friday night.

"He leaned over the cash register and put his gun inside to try and grab the cash," said the cashier. The video then shows the cashier do the unthinkable.

"My heart was racing from the adrenaline," he said. He grabbed the gun from the robber who he said had just threatened to kill him.

"I've seen people get robbed and even when they give them the goods they still get shot. I just didn't want that to happen to me," he said. The gunman was caught off guard and took off running.

"I feel like he thought it was going to be an easy job and he was going to be in and out. But when the tables turned, he turned around with the tables and went out the door," the cashier joked.

Police say the gunman came back though two days later again around closing time. Surveillance shows this time, the suspect brought along a lookout man. He held a gun at his side and demanded cash and cigarettes.  A different cashier handed it all over and the two men left.

"It worries me and my coworkers but you know I have to survive. I have to make money to survive so I have to do what I have to do. And that night I had to survive too. So I had to grab that gun because in my head I didn't know what was going to happen," said the cashier.
