Brooklyn's Prospect Park finally has an ice skating facility again. The new, improved and absolutely beautiful skating rinks at the $74 million Samuel J. and Ethel Lefrak Center will have ice skating and ice hockey in the winter, roller skating for the fall and spring, and water play in the summer.
The price of admission: less than a movie ticket, $6 weekdays, $8 on weekends.
Under the Bloomberg administration, 870 acres have been added to New York City parks. With only weeks left in office, Bloomberg reflected on his legacy. He spoke of improving education and life expectancy and lowering crime. But the mayor has been criticized of creating a so-called nanny state. Bloomberg made no apologies.
When Bloomberg leaves his job as mayor, he plans on putting his expertise to good use. He started a consulting group that will help cities around the world -- for free.
The skating rink officially opens to the public Friday.
