A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death early Tuesday morning at a home near 35th Avenue and Maryland.

Phoenix police say 21-year-old Francisco Gutierrez went to the home with his girlfriend, who is also the ex-girlfriend of a person who lives there.

Gutierrez allegedly wanted to fight with the ex-boyfriend, but instead, Alec Imus stepped in the middle and was stabbed by Gutierrez at some point during the confrontation.

Imus' friends took him to a hospital where he was later declared dead.

According to police, both Gutierrez and his girlfriend were gone when officers arrived.

After interviewing people at the home at the time of the stabbing, police identified Gutierrez as a suspect.

He was arrested and booked into jail on one count of second degree murder.
