SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Hockey fans in Detroit had their hearts broken when last season's lockout postponed the Winter Classic in the Motor City. But now the wait is over and the big event is just weeks away.

Preparations have already begun at Comerica Park, where multiple hockey games will take place in the week leading up New Year's day. On New Years eve former members of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings will square off in an alumni game at the ballpark.

Then on New Year's day the Red Wings play the Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

There will be lots of fun and festivities all week long in Detroit.
