Runners brave frigid weather for Lights of Love 5K
The cold weather didn't keep Central Texans away from the Lights of Love 5K.
More than 4,000 people were expected to take part in the 6th annual run.
The event was held at the Mueller Hangar, where participants were able to stay out of the elements.
The Lights of Love benefits the Ronald McDonald house which supports families with critically ill and injured children.
FOX 7 was one of the sponsors for tonight's gala.
Christine Haas helped emcee along with Keri Bellacosa.
Organizers say donations are so important this time of year to make sure families have a place to stay.
"A lot of times families have to travel from very far away to get the best medical care for their child and to stay in a hotel and do that on their own it's quite expensive," said Carolyn Schwarz, the director of Ronald McDonald House Austin. "So we're here to support families through that , to provide shelter, to provide hot meals to be that home away from home for them."
The Ronald McDonald House has been providing a home away from home since 1985 for families who have children in Austin area hospitals.
