Overnight a winter storm hit the outskirts of the Hill Country dropping sleet and freezing rain.
Despite the thaw that followed some spots remained in a deep freeze. Icicles hung around the town square of San Saba Friday morning.
Residents there and in the towns of Brady and Mason were hit the hardest in the Hill Country. Most major roads were passable but slushy conditions in places made traveling a little dangerous.
Several businesses opened despite the ice, but some schools closed or had delayed openings.
The ice stopped just short of Burnet. As a result school buses were able to run on schedule.
