Winter weather causes travel problems for Central Texans

Posted: Updated:

Drivers attempting to use the flyovers in Austin Friday morning were greeted by icy road conditions that left them slipping, sliding and in some cases crashing into other vehicles.

Earlier Friday morning dozens of vehicles got stuck on the overpass where US 183A, Toll 45 and 620 meet.

Tow trucks had to be used to help many of the stranded commuters get down from the flyover. That situation, along with a number of accidents, prompted Leander police to close all of 183A. Round Rock and Pflugerville police closed Toll 45 because of crashes and cars spinning out on the slick roadways.

All of the flyovers are back open. TxDOT trucks have also begun treating the roadways where ice had accumulated.
