Stakes high for Brown, Horns vs Baylor

Posted: Updated:

The Texas Longhorns could win a share of the Big 12 title or even a BCS berth if they beat No. 9 Baylor Saturday in Waco.

Texas would win at least a share of the Big 12 title if they defeat the Bears. If Oklahoma State falls to Oklahoma earlier in the day, then the Longhorns could win the conference outright and would earn a BCS bowl bid.

Coach Mack Brown wants the team to adopt a similar attitude to one he saw earlier in the season.

"We told them the attitude we had for Kansas State, the attitude we had during the week for Oklahoma, and the attitude we had for TCU is what we need to see this week," Brown said. "And we need to play like that on Saturday afternoon. You've still got a chance to go 10-and-3 when you were 1-2 to start with. So we talked about it as a staff this morning and what they need to understand is don't go in uptight, be aggressive. You gotta come in and bring your best shot.

"But at the same time, as coaches, we've gotta do the same thing. Put our best stuff out there and turn it loose and let it go and enjoy the fact that you got here. We need to take advantage of our opportunity to beat Baylor and then the rest of the stuff works itself out."

Saturday's game in Waco will be the final one at Floyd Casey Stadium. That is because the Bears will be playing in their new $260 million riverfront stadium next season.

Baylor has played at Floyd Casey the past 64 years. They would like nothing more than to close it out with a win over Texas, and claim at least a share of the big 12 championship.

"You couldn't ask for a better scenario other than winning the game," Baylor Coach Art Briles said. "That's the bottom line all the way around. That's where our focus will be. Plus, closing out the stadium which will be a tremendous thrill and benefit. Something we can always be proud of hopefully."

"It's gonna be packed and all the fans are going to be rowdy," Senior UT defensive back Adrian Phillips said. "So, just have to go out there and weather the storm. If we do what we need to. Then we'll come out with the win."

"I got a couple of friends that go to Baylor, so I know it'll be a lot of trash-talking," Said UT junior defensive back Quandre Diggs. "It'll be a good game. It'll be a fun game to be a part of. Hopefully we can close the season off right."

The game will be at 2:30 PM on FOX 7.
