PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A group of puppies was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico and brought to Arizona.  They were set to be euthanized, but a special grant is giving them a second chance.

These playful pups are looking for a home.

"There is not a market for adoption in the area.. high euthanasia," said Michelle Ramos of the Arizona Animal Welfare League.

The dogs, 28 in all, would have been put down.  In the New Mexico shelter, there was no room.

"They had a plea come in to us that they did have a great need right now to move some of the animals out of the shelter, that's when we stepped in," said Ramos.

The real lifesaver for the dogs was a grant from the ASPCA and car maker Subaru.

The dogs are all ages and breeds.

Ferria is a little terrier.  She's 8 weeks old and she's ready to be adopted.

All of these adorable dogs are looking for a second chance.  Some of the dogs are on the shyer side, others are eager and ready to investigate and get out and see the world.

Right now, they're waiting to be part of a loving family.
