Detroit watermain break floods area of McNichols and Evergreen

(WJBK) -

A watermain break in Detroit has flooded the intersection of McNichols and Evergreen road on the city's west side.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area, but, if necessary, take caution when approaching the intersection.

Fox 2 Traffic Authority Kevin Sanderson reports Evergreen Road is submerged at the intersection, and McNichols is flooded one block to the east and two blocks to the west of Evergreen, as you can see in the video. Crews arrived on the scene around 8 a.m.

Fox 2's Erika Erickson was on the scene. She reports officials say the break happened around 5 a.m. Friday because of the cold temperatures. The water appears to be thigh-deep at some areas.

Many neighbors tell say their basements are flooded.

No estimation was given at this time for how long repairs will take.
