Junior Chef On Good Day With New Project

Posted: Updated:
Philadelphia, PA -

Braeden Mannering, a junior chef from Bear, Delaware, was on FOX 29 back in July. He was one of the winners of a healthy lunch contest, and he got to attend the Kids' State Dinner luncheon at the White House!

"It was fun. It was really awesome, and I had a great time," Mannering told Sheinelle about his visit to the White House and meeting Michelle Obama.

That trip to Washington, DC was not just fun for little Braeden, it also inspired him to do something really amazing.

Braeden and mother Christy were on Good Day to talk about life since the State Dinner and their new project, BBB.

"Braeden's brown bags," he described. "It helps homeless people and poor people with a healthy snack and a water bottle."

Braeden tells Mike and Sheinelle that he got this idea when he was coming back to Philly from DC. They saw a beggar and wanted to help him, but just giving money would not guarantee that it would be used properly. Therefore, Braden put his little mind to work and thought about what he could do to make a difference.

The winter version of the brown bag gives not just snacks, but also some winter accessories too. All of these come from donations or were purchased by the Mannering family. For kids who get a bag, they also get a little book.

So far, Braeden has already given out 365 bags to people, which is about 8,000 pounds of food.

Watch the whole segment to hear little Braeden read one of the letters that he puts into a brown bag he gives to kids.
