New Study Maps Average Age Of Marriage By Country

Posted: Updated:

People all over the world are waiting until they are older to tie the knot. However, just how much longer depends on where you live and how wealthy your country is. Researchers at Priceonomics created a map that uses data from the UN.

It shows the average age that people get married in countries all over the world.

They found that the richer the nation, the longer the people wait.

In Western Europe, for example, people usually wait to get married until they are 30.

In Afghanistan, on the other hand, most people get married at the age of 20.

Also, the study reveals that every country still sees women getting married at a younger age than men do. Some developing countries still see women marry very young.

In the US, the average marrying age for women is 27 and for men it's 30, according to a Pew Research Center study in 2011. This means that less than half of all American adults are married. This is down from 72% in 1960.
