2,000+ Winter Coats Distributed To Chester Upland Children

CHESTER, Pa. -

This morning, first-, second- and third-graders at Chester Upland School of the Arts (CUSA) are among the first of more than 2,000 students in the school district to receive warm winter coats donated by a variety of community well-wishers.

This program, says Superintendent Gregory Shannon, is another way the school district is working to create the best possible learning environment for its 3,100 enrolled children.

"Our goal is to remove all barriers to learning for our children," said Superintendent Shannon. "We feel it is vitally important to provide a welcoming, safe and warm environment for our children. We know our children vote with their feet. It's important for them to want to come to school, to affirmatively choose to participate, so they get the most out of their school days. The winter coats are one way we demonstrate that we care about them and want them to be comfortable so they can focus on their school work."

Friday at CUSA is also "Bring Your Parent to School Day," and the district expects hundreds of parents to join their children at school that morning. They enjoyed a complimentary continental breakfast at 8 a.m. and visited their children's classrooms where they watched their children participate in reading circles.
