An Austin police officer was involved in a multi-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in East Austin.
According to authorities, at around 2:30 a.m., an officer was traveling northbound on Airport Blvd when he came to a stop at a red light behind an ambulance at 12th Street. A silver SUV traveling from the opposite direction ran the red light on Airport Blvd and hit an eastbound traveling vehicle on 12th Street.
That collision caused a chain reaction, sending the vehicle crashing into the ambulance which then struck the police car. Police are investigating, but believe that alcohol may have been involved.
The suspect behind the crash was originally listed as being in critical condition, but has been since upgraded to non-critical.
