Police Make Arrest In Malvern Murder Case

MALVERN, Pa. -

A 21-year-old was found dead in his home and authorities say they have the guy who killed him in custody. Investigators say it is someone the victim had known for years.

Police picked 24-year-old Merritt Dudas at his girlfriend's house. . He has been arrested and charged with murder.

To his friends, Drew Ferguson was a fun, loving guy who loved working on cars. The thought of someone shooting him to death inside his Malvern home is simply hard to believe.

"He was always fun, always happy to do things, loved cars. Just really loved life," Michael Cheshire told FOX 29.

Cheshire went to high school with Ferguson. He heard the news of Ferguson's murder Tuesday morning and decided to come to his friend's home where he lived with his grandparents. He was shaken by Ferguson's death.

"I'm confused, we live in such a nice town, Malvern and how could this happen to him," Cheshire said.

Police say this was not a random crime, but it's the first murder here in this quiet Main Line borough in nearly 20 years. Ben Boomer walked out his front door Monday night and saw his street lined with police cars.

"It's scary. A house burned down right over here last week. I'm ready to move," he said.

Boomer has lived next door to Ferguson's grandparents for years. He says the young car mechanic was a friendly young man who was always working on cars.

"He went to trade school for automobile repair," Boomer said. "No trouble with him, say hi how ya doing chit chat for a little bit."

Boomer says it's been nearly two decades since the last murder in Malvern.

"Whoever did this to him is out of their mind. I don't understand how you could do this to someone like Drew. Such a nice kid, would do anything for anybody," he said. "He was a great kid and I miss him so much."

The victim's body was found upstairs in a sleeping bag, wrapped in a tarp. The DA confirms that they have found Dudas' car, wallet, and keys on the person of the defendant. They have also recovered the murder weapon in this case.

Police say the last murder in Malvern was on Sept. 18,1996.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
