Posted: Updated:

Atmos Energy is burning excess natural gas from a gas line causes flames to shoot into the sky in northeast Austin.

The Austin Fire Department said Atmos Energy is in the process of moving a natural gas line to connect it with another line. They have to relieve the pressure by routing it through a pipe stack and burning it. Officials say this is a harmless controlled burn.

The burn started at 8:00 AM on Monday and could last up to 18 hours.
