21-Year-Old Dies After South Street Shooting

PHILADELPHIA -

Cell phone video captured the panic and pandemonium after an overnight shooting near South Second Street.

In the video, the streets were crowded with people most were simply out to enjoy their Saturday night.

One person was shot and late Sunday night we learned he has died.

The chaos was caught on smartphone moments after gunfire On South Street early Sunday.

Police were called for a fight inside the mixed plate night club and just as police were clearing the club a hail of gunfire erupted. Ten shots were fired in the middle of South Street.

"It was pretty much a mad house when we first got out here. It unbelievable that nobody else was shot out here," Philadelphia Police Captain Frank Llewellyn said.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the head and chest. He was rushed to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the suspect, a 24-year-old man, was caught by bike police a couple blocks away.

One of the stray bullets shattered Brian Shilling's sliding glass door 5 stories high. The bullet still lodged in the wall above his Christmas Tree.

The chaos continued after the shooting as friends had to be escorted from the scene and witnesses were seen with blood on their clothes.

Geoffrey Bennett heard the gunshots from his bedroom. He says things around South Street are getting bad.

"In the last year and a half we've had three or four murders in a five-block radius," Bennet said.

So far, police have not identified the suspect or victim. We were told Sunday night that murder charges were pending.
