Police Seek Driver In Deadly Olney Hit-And-Run

Police Seek Driver In Deadly Olney Hit-And-Run

Posted: Updated:

Surveillance video captured the final few minutes of Victor Ortiz's life, the moments before police say a hit-and-run driver plowed into him.

Ortiz's longtime girlfriend, Kenya Matos, is heartbroken.

"I love him to death," she said. "That was my world. He was my world to me. He still is."

Matos was inside La Barra Martini Bar and Restaurant around 3 a.m. Saturday. On surveillance video you can see Ortiz waiting outside. Police say that as the 42-year-old plumber and electrician staggered towards home across Rising Sun at Fisher Avenue, he was hit by not one but two cars. His house was just 100 yards away.

Lorne Williams witnessed the deadly collision and said, "It's traumatic! Very traumatic. I was no more good last night."

From the video, Williams says you can see a white minivan swerve to miss Ortiz, who had started crossing Rising Sun.

But the driver of the older-model, 4-door Honda Accord wasn't as agile. It knocked Ortiz into opposing traffic, leaving part of the bumper behind after fleeing the scene.

Seconds later, police say Ortiz was run over by a second car, a silver Toyota Camry. This time the driver stopped.

Police say the driver of the Camry isn't expected to face any charges. They're still looking for the driver of that gold Honda Accord, FOX 29's Omari Fleming reported.
