Police: Neither speed nor impairment a factor in fatal crash
GLENDALE, Ariz. -
Glendale Police are investigating a fatal crash that involved a vehicle and pedestrian Thursday night.
"Preliminary investigation has revealed that a pedestrian was crossing from the north side of Peoria Avenue southbound and was not inside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a westbound vehicle (Jeep). The pedestrian is a male in his 50s who was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased," stated Sgt. Jay O'Neill.
The Jeep was driven by a male in his 30s who is a Peoria resident. The driver's teenage daughter was a passenger in the vehicle.
O'Neill says neither speed nor impairment appear to be a factor in this collision on the part of the Jeep's driver.
During the investigation, Peoria Avenue will be closed in both directions between 43rd Avenue and 45th Avenue. It is expected to be open for the morning commute.
No names have been released in this case.
