During the recent floods, on October 30-31, STARFlight search and rescue crews rescued over 30 people.
STARFlight began responding to swift water incidents at 10 p.m. on Oct. 30. Severe weather prohibited flying for a three hour period, but as soon as conditions improved rescue flights resumed.
Austin-Travis County EMS prioritized for first-response rescue calls with victims in the highest-risk environments, such as in attics, on car roofs, in trees or in the water. First-response personnel also managed aviation rescues geographically to ensure aircraft crew and victim safety in the small area of operations.
In a 16-hour period, 31 people and four dogs were rescued.
