Man, 31, dies in house fire on Detroit's west side

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (WJBK) -- Authorities say a fire has killed a 31-year-old Detroit man.

The blaze was reported about 1:20 a.m. Monday at a home on Forrer Street near Seven Mile and Greenfield on the city's northwest side.

The victim's mother, Felicia Hall, tells FOX 2 she also lived at the residence but was not home when the fire started. She was the caregiver for her son, Brandon Norwood, who had been living with AIDS for the past 15 years.

"I didn't want him to go like this. I knew one day it would happen but not like this," Hall says.

Arson Unit Captain Patrick McNulty says the cause is under investigation. He says part of the home's interior collapsed, making a determination about the cause more difficult.

Hall says she plans to set up the 'Brandon Norwood Fund' at Bank of America to help cover the funeral costs.
