DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

A body has been found in an alley near Woodward Avenue and Six Mile Road in Detroit, police say.

Fox 2's Ron Savage reports the body was found in a residential garbage can. A mother and son made the gruesome discovery as they were looking for bottles and scraps in the alley off Parkhurst Street and Woodward Avenue, just north of Six Mile Road.

Police and the family initially thought the body was that of a woman, due to the nature of the clothing. They also thought two bodies were inside due to the manner in which the body was placed inside the container.

Police now confirm one body was inside, and that it is a male's body.
