Two people recovering after downtown shooting

Posted: Updated:

Austin Police say a HALO camera did not capture what happened in the 300 block of West 5th street. Officers responded to reports of shots fired shortly before the bars closed.

Detective Jarrett Crippen says a verbal argument started inside one of the clubs and spilled out onto the street. Police say as the shooter started to leave he fired anywhere from five to twelve shots into the crowd.

Police say three bullets hit one victim and another victim was shot at least once. Friends transported both of the victims to UMC Brackenridge in personal vehicles. Both are expected to make full recoveries.

The shooting took place on the sidewalk in the 300 block of West 5th. Police have not released the name of the club where the argument started. They are trying to piece together exactly what happened from witnesses.

"Any incident in Austin's party district you have a lot of people some of them have been indulging in alcohol so witness stories do vary but right now we're pretty sure what happened but still looking for more information," said Detective Jarrett Crippen.

Witnesses told police they believe the shooter ran away from the area with a group of people and then got into a car.

Police haven't released any information about a possible suspect or vehicle description.
