LUKEVILLE, Ariz. -

A missing Bay Area infant was found safe after his father allegedly took him and fled to Mexico.

The good news came Wednesday night when Mexican authorities stopped Mesul Guler at a checkpoint just across the border from Lukeville, Ariz.

A statewide Amber Alert was issued in California after police say the boy's father took his two-week-old son Henry Tuesday afternoon and fled.

Guler threatened to harm himself and the baby if the mother, Patricia Romero, told police.

The search centered around San Diego where his cell phone was last detected and there were sightings of his SUV.

"I'm really happy and thankful for the police and people that helped to find my baby," said Romero. "I was really afraid that I wouldn't be able to find him again."

"Based on their interview with him, they called the U.S. Border Patrol at Lukeville, gave them the name. The U.S. Border Patrol ran his name in the computer system and discovered that there was a warrant for his arrest," said Capt. Dave Pitts with Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

The big question is: How did American Border Patrol officers miss him?

In fact, Border Patrol agents in Lukeville had to check their computer to find out there was an $1 million warrant for his arrest.
