SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Three men were arrested after they allegedly threatened to bomb two Scottsdale high schools on Tuesday.

Scottsdale Police say a 911 dispatcher received a call from a man who said there was a bomb at Chaparral and Desert Mountain High Schools.

Authorities searched the campuses and a Desert Mountain staff member found an unattended backpack in a campus bathroom.

The campus was put on lockdown, but was taken off 20 minutes later when the backpack was determined to not be a threat.

While police were on each campus, they say an office received additional phone threats similar to what the 911 call center received.

With the help of telephone records, detectives were led to a coin store near Indian School Road and Drinkwater Boulevard.

25-year-old Daniel Verdin, 42-year-old Davyd G. Jimenez and 25-year-old Sanches Ortiz, all of California, were outside the store sitting in a vehicle.

Police identified the men as suspects. They searched the suspects' vehicle and found evidence of the bomb threat including packaging from a pre-paid phone used to call in the threats and a handgun.

According to police, none of the men have a link to the schools or the city of Scottsdale and there's no evidence they were ever near the schools.

Officers say they believe the men came into town to rob the coin shop and that the bomb threats were a tactic to lure the police away from the downtown Scottsdale area.

All three men were taken into custody and face charges of Disruption of a School, Conspiracy and False Reporting.
