Twitter IPO launches, survey shows most Americans still don't tweet

PHOENIX -

Starting Thursday, you can own part of Twitter.

It's the first day you can start buying stock, which started at $26 a share.

Even though FOX 10 talks about Twitter all the time, a new poll says most Americans couldn't care less.

According to a new Pew Research survey, only 16 percent of Americans tweet and almost half of the Twitterverse is under the age of 30.

Maybe everyone isn't on Twitter, but the 16 percent who tweet are a major draw for marketers.

According to stats, people who tweet tend to generally be better educated and more affluent than those who don't.

Plus, Twitter is growing at a rapid pace with a 50 percent growth-spurt in the us this year and more than doubling internationally.

Compared to its rival, Facebook, Twitter is way smaller--about half the membership.

But in terms of potential, with their IPO launching and more people getting on board, in 140 characters or less: Twitter has a lot of room to grow.
