Police: Delco Serial Robber Strikes Again

Posted: Updated:

Police believe a serial armed robber struck again Tuesday night at a convenience store in Broomall.

They say there's a very good chance the man who just robbed it is same man who has been terrorizing people in Delaware County over the last two weeks.

Just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night, police say they believe the man responsible for several robberies struck again. It happened at Swiss Farms on West Chester Pike in Broomall. The suspect did not have a weapon this time, but came in and demanded cash from employees, got it and then left.

Upper Darby Police say this same suspect has now struck seven times in the last 17 days from Springfield, to Haverford and on into Upper Darby. Investigators believe the suspect has a drug problem.

"You're looking at a $80- to $100-a-day-habit, some of these guys we interview have a $200 a day habit," said Captain George Rhoades. "This course of conduct is going to escalate, it's bad things waiting to happen. We have to get him off the street as soon as we can."

Chitwood says the suspect started pulling robberies with a simulated weapon, then a knife, before graduating to using a handgun.

Surveillance cameras have picked him up at several locations. His favorite target is Swiss Farms stores in Springfield and Upper Darby. He's hit them several times for cash and escaped.

"They now have guards posted," Chitwood said.

Detectives are convinced this robbery spree will continue and have offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
